For the past 19 years I was employed by WIN Television to organise the field day at Yanco. When WIN passed their ownership of the event onto the Griffith Showground Trust and the Coro Club, I went with it.
Unfortunately due to an oversight the name was never registered and despite having used it for 19 years, it was subsequently registered by another organization. This organisation intends to keep running the event at Yanco. However the only resemblance to the event owned and run by WIN Television for the past 19 years and the event planned for next year, is the name.
The reason that WIN Television passed the ownership on and looked to move the event was because it had run its race on that particular site. It was tired and expenses were outstripping the revenue received from site fees. Crowd numbers had been dwindling over the past 3-5 years and the event was simply not viable.
Holding a field day in Griffith has huge benefits for both public and exhibitors alike. Griffith has a population base of 24,000 and consequently crowd numbers should increase. The infrastructure in place at the Griffith Showgrounds means permanent facilities such as toilets, shade, halls & pavillions . Add to this the fantastic restaurants which all are open late at night, as well as 7 clubs and 3 pubs and there is much for the exhibitor.
The 2007 event was a resounding success and many regular exhibitors have pledged their support again of the Riverina Field Days at the new venue and see it as a positive move.
We managed to keep the dates and it will be held on Friday & Saturday 9 & 10, 2008. Join us.
